Baby Care and Parenting Tips

101 Essential Baby Care Tips

Baby car seats can prevent serious injury to your child in the event of an accident.

It is the law that all children under the age of twelve should be seated in the back seat.

This is especially true if you have airbags in the front.

From the time you bring your baby home from the hospital, s/he should be placed in an appropriate car safety seat.

Infants must be in a rear facing infant only seat or an appropriate convertible seat until s/he weighs twenty pounds or reach the age of one.

After twenty pounds and after the first birthday, toddlers can use a forward facing seat until they reach approximately forty pounds or their ears reach the top of the car seat.

Over forty pounds, a child must be in a seatbelt positioned booster seat.

Your car seat belts should not be used by a child under the age of eight unless they are four feet nine inches tall.

A booster seat should be used until then.

There are many different types of booster seats are available.

Your child should be appropriately restrained at all times.

Your child will not be ready to use regular seatbelts until the shoulder trap fits across the shoulder not the neck.

The lap belt must fit across the hips and not his stomach.

When installing car seats the manufacturer’s directions must be followed exactly.

if you don’t have them call the company for a replacement.

The car seat will have a label which will have the manufacturer, the address, and the phone number.

It will also show the name of the car seat.

You must have this information to get a replacement.

If there is no label on the seat do not purchase it.

It could be a seat that was damaged in a car accident.

If you are purchasing the car seat second hand, inspect it thoroughly.

Check all the belts for fraying, all fasteners for cracks, and the padding of the seat to be sure it is not ripped or torn.

Always check to see if there is a label on the seat, it will have the information you need if there is no manual available.

Ask questions such as has this seat been in a crash?

If so, do not purchase it.

It may look fine but its safety may have been compromised.

There could be a misalignment of the frame resulting in your child’s safety being compromised.

No matter what type of seat you purchase, and there are many, consider how much you can spend.

If expense is a concern a convertible travel system maybe in order.

A rear-facing car seat can be used as a front facing car seat until the appropriate age.

There is a base that remains in the car.

The infant/toddler car seat then can be attached to a stroller frame and later it can reattach to the base that’s in the car.

Check out your options and consider what will be best as far as expenses are concerned.

Do your research and determine what will be best for you and your child.

Always, the first concern should be the safety of your baby from day one.

It is important to know what type of seat your vehicle will accommodate.

Your car owner’s manual or a dealer will be able to tell you what is compatible with the vehicle you own.

It is an overwhelming choice to make but begin looking for a car seat when you find out you are expecting.

A well informed choice will keep your baby safe.

Every parent wants their kids to be safe all the time.  No parent would want their kids to be in danger, especially when it comes to the gears and accessories that the kids use.  This is the reason why many parents choose the brands that are tested when it comes to reliability and quality.  Parents trust Radian for the high quality products that the company produces, especially the Radian car seat.  Radian is known for the safety that it brings as regards child accessories and gears.

Who wouldn’t choose Radian car seat when you know that your child will be secured all the time with this accessory?  You can drive all you want without worrying about your child in the back seat.  This car seat is also convertible so that you can have a small folded seat with 7-inch width.  The car seat can also bring comfort to your child because of the materials used like the padding and the fabric.  It has 4 layers of padding to ensure that your child is very comfortable when he or she is in the car.  There is also an adjustable head support so that older kids can still be comfortable when using the car seat.

One of the best features of this car seat is the Super Latch that you don’t even need a seat belt to secure your child.  Super Latch will take care of the safety of your child in the car seat, so that you don’t have to worry about your child toppling over.  Also, the base of the car seat is detachable so that you can easily adjust the seat from forward-facing to rear-facing and vice versa.  Another great feature of this car seat is the padded shoulder strap that is directly attached to the car seat to provide ease in carrying the seat.  In case of accidents, the car seat is designed to reduce the impact with the Safe Stop feature.

This car seat is suitable for kids weighing up to 80lbs when the seat is in forward-facing position and up to 45lbs when the seat is in rear-facing position.  Children that are 53 inches in height (or below) can also use the car seat.

Your new baby is on the way and it is time to choose a car seat that has both comfort and safety features.  All car seats musst pass government safety standard, but there are many options to consider. Your child’s safety is important and this is one purchase that you need to spend some time thinking about.  Safety should be your main goal, but keeping your baby comfortable is very important.  Here are some features to keep in mind:

Five Point Harness

This may be the most important safety feature when choosing a car seat. This type of harness has been tested and proven to be the best at keeping your child firmly in the seat during an impact.  When properly adjusted, it reduces the chance of your baby being ejected or falling out of the seat.

Reclining Seats

Newborn babies do not have the strength to stop their heads from rolling around.  This can cause damage to their neck, so it is important to stabilize their head. You might be tempted to use blankets and towels to do this but a good reclining seat can go a long way toward supporting your newborn’s head without allowing it to roll forward.

Side Impact Head Protection

Better car seat manufacturers have begun adding padded bumpers for improved head protection.  Others have chosen to reinforce the plastic and add removeable cushions to increase safety during an impact.

Latch Feature

This is a great feature for safety and convenience, it allows you to latch the car seat without using the car seat belts.  Seats that are latched this way can be much more secure.  Some seats even provide a base that uses the latch feature, then the seat can be snapped into the base and easily removed for use as an infant carrier.  Just be sure that the seat is locked into the base properly.

Choosing the perfect car seat for your baby can be tricky because as a baby grows, the car seat needs change.  You want to be sure you are using the safest seat available because the safety of your child depends upon it. Take the time to compare seats and safety ratings, look at some good reviews and chooose wisely.  Comfort and safety are worth the extra time you will spend to find the perfect car seat.
