A lot of teens nowadays do not understand the value of earning and spending money. They were not oriented that investing is necessary even if they are still students. As parents, you play a crucial role in this area.

You should be able to teach your kids on how to save money. They should be able to understand the concept of money and investment as early as childhood. This will prepare them to learn money management, as they grow old.

Here are some tips on how you can teach your children how to save money:

1. Your children should be educated of the meaning of money. Once your children have learned how to count, that is the perfect time for you teach them the real meaning of money. You should be consistent and explain to them in simple ways and do this frequently so that they may be able to remember what you taught them.

2. Always explain to them the value of saving money. Make them understand its importance and how it will impact their life. It is important that you entertain questions from them about money and you should be able to answer them right away.

3. When giving them their allowances. You need to give them their allowances in denominations. Then you can encourage them that they should keep a certain bill for the future. You can motivate them to do this by telling them that the money can be saved and they can buy new pair of shoes or the toys they want once they are able to save.

4. You can also teach them to work for money. You can start this at your own home. You can pay them fifty cents to one dollar every time they clean their rooms, do the dishes or feed their pets. This concept of earning little money will make them think that money is something they have worked for and should be spent wisely.

5. You can teach them to save money by giving them piggy banks where they can put coins and wait until they get full. You can also open bank accounts for them and let them deposit money from their allowance. You should always show them how much they have earned to keep them motivated.

Money and saving is not something that is learned by children in one sitting. You should be patient in teaching them and relating the value of money in all of their activities. Children will learn this easily if you are patient and consistent in guiding them and encouraging them in this endeavor.

Kites go back 3000 yrs, as the Chinese built them from silk and bamboo. Across the centuries kites have been employed in religious ceremonies, scientific experiments, military maneuvers and, of course, for play. Nowadays sites explore the history, the science and the sport of kite flying. Check more at the following sites:

20 Kids * 20 Kites * 20 Minutes

Can a classroom of twenty students make twenty kites, and be outside flying them in twenty minutes? You betcha! Uncle Jonathan from the Big Wind Kite Factory on the Hawaiian island of Molokai shares the kid-tested instructions he’s been using with tour groups for fifteen years. The kites are folded from 8 « x 11 inch paper, so they are smaller than the usual kite, but the simple directions are easy enough for kindergartners, yet fun enough for big kids too!

How Does a Kite Fly?

This eye-pleasing site, created for a Physics course, starts with a short explanation of drag and lift, then quickly moves on to other disciplines. Don’t miss the folk tales from China, Bali and Hawaii (found on History of Kites page) or the interviews with kiters Michael Graves and Peter Peters. Instructions for building a simple diamond kite and a large list of kite links complete this site.

Learn2 Make a Kite

This Learn2 lesson is actually two tutorials in one. The first set of instructions (Method 1) is a kite made from tissue paper and straw that costs almost nothing to build. Method 2 constructs a classic Scott Sled kite. It is a bit more time-consuming, but also more durable, as it is made from plastic tarp and dowels. To print the instructions, click on over to the last step of the second kite, where you’ll find a link to All the Steps at Once.

Are you a parent? If so, there is a good chance that you already know just how much kids love the holidays. That is why you may want to think about letting your children help you decorate for Christmas. In fact, in addition to just letting them help you hang Christmas decorations, you may also want to let them make their own handmade Christmas decorations. Not only will you find that there are a number of benefits to doing so, but you will also find that there are a number of fun and exciting Christmas decorations that they can easily make.

Almost every family that celebrates Christmas has a Christmas tree; therefore, there is a good chance that your family will have one. One fun and exciting Christmas craft project that your children could do involves making their own Christmas ornaments. Christmas ornaments can be made from regular paper or any other type of material. In fact, you can purchase a number of Christmas ornament cutouts or guides from your local craft store. These ornament pieces are likely plain, but already shaped like something, such as a star or a cross. It would be up to your child to paint their ornament. This type of Christmas decoration craft project is great for small children or those who may be making their own Christmas decorations for the first time.

In addition to Christmas trees, a large number of families have small Christmas signs or pictures throughout their home. These signs and pictures often state a Christmas message or have a picture of Santa. Your children could easily make their own paintings or drawings, often with the supplies that can already be found inside your home. Your child’s picture would likely look great on your refrigerator or you could even frame the picture and hang it up somewhere else inside your home. This type of Christmas decoration craft project is ideal for children of any age and, as previously mentioned, is a great way to save money since you likely already have all of the needed supplies.

Another fun Christmas decoration that your children could do is make a centerpiece for your dinning room table. In fact, you may also want to use that centerpiece for your Christmas dinner. If you are looking for a somewhat elegant centerpiece, you could easily have your children make their own. You can do this by purchasing artificial flowers, a large bowl or vase, as well as other decorative items. Your children can easily arrange these items to create their own unique centerpieces for your dinning room table. It may also be a good idea to let them be crafty. Your child may also be able to create a centerpiece in the shape of Santa or a Christmas tree by using construction paper and a few other small supplies.

The above mentioned Christmas craft decoration ideas for kids are just a few of the many that exist. In addition to using your own craft ideas, you can also find a number of other fun Christmas craft projects for kids online. You can find a collection of ideas by performing a standard internet search. Also, in your local library or at one of your local book stores, you may also be able to find a collection of Christmas craft books for children. These books tend to outline the supplies needed, as well as give detailed directions on how to make Christmas decorations. These decorations may include Christmas drawings or paintings, tree ornaments, table centerpieces, and much more.

Regardless of which type of Christmas decorations you allow your child or children to make, they will likely enjoy the experience, especially if you participate as well. For a child, there is nothing like seeing their Christmas drawings hanging on the walls or their Christmas ornaments hanging on the tree. That is why you are advised to let your children make their own Christmas decorations. As mentioned above, there are a number of decorations that they can easily create; decorations that may require little time and money.

Every day in America, each man, woman and child generates nearly four pounds of trash. That’s over one trillion pounds of solid waste or 365 trillion pounds each year. It’s a staggering statistic when you consider the environmental effect that much garbage has on our fragile ecosystem.

As adults, it’s easy to forget the importance of the 3 R’s our world depends on-reducing, reusing and recycling-for the health and safety of future generations. It’s those future generations–our children–that will bear the consequences of today’s environmental mismanagement, unless an effort is made to improve upon current behaviors.

For the third year, one hotel company is stepping up to the task, helping kids to think globally and act locally by educating them on how to properly care for the environment. With help from The National Arbor Day Foundation, Doubletree Hotels is distributing an environmentally focused lesson plan that provides the framework for taking would-be waste and recycling it into artistic treasures to thousands of elementary school students in the U.S. and Canada.

The education initiative is an extension of the hotel’s Teaching Kids to CARE program, a community outreach initiative that pairs hotel properties with elementary schools and youth groups to educate children about making conscious decisions about environmental care. This spring, Teaching Kids to CARE volunteers and children will create “litter critters,” a reduced, reused and recycled representation of animals in the world hurt by litter, and will plant more than 10,000 seedling trees across the U.S. and Canada.

For those parents (and mentors) wanting to engage their kids (or nieces, nephews and grandkids) in environmentally conscious activities, here are a few tips:

1. Recycling is Fun-Pass it On-Recycling isn’t all about aluminum cans and old newspapers. Encourage your kids to start their own recycling program in which they share old toys, books and games with their friends and classmates. One child’s trash is another child’s treasure and by “passing it on,” kids will learn that they can reduce waste by recycling their old things so that others can reuse them.

2. Become a Habitat Hero–Challenge your children to gather up all their friends and classmates to help clean up a park or schoolyard (with parental supervision). Whoever collects the most trash wins the “Habitat Hero” award and prize (as decided upon by you).

3. Plant a “Family Tree”–Take your kids to a garden or home store and allow them to help pick out a young tree. (Make sure to check that it can survive in your climate region.) Plant the tree in a special location as a family, assigning a different task (digging, planting, watering) to each family member. Make sure to document the activity with a photo, so kids can remember how small the tree was when they planted it.

4. You CAN Make a Difference–Encourage your children to save empty aluminum cans, then take a weekly trip to a nearby “Cash for Cans” drop-off location. Decide with your kids how best to use the money they’ve collected from their recycling efforts to better the environment. Options to consider include volunteering for tree planting projects, adopting a local stretch of highway to be beautified and maintained or donating the money to a local environmental organization.

5. Pulp to Paper–This fun, hands-on project shows kids how old newspapers are recycled back into fresh newspapers. Have your child tear a half page of newspaper into small, one-inch pieces. Fill buckets or bowls with one-part newspaper and two-parts water and let soak for several hours. Using a hand mixer, “pulp” the fibers in the paper until the mixture looks like mush. Take a handful of pulp and place it on a piece of felt, molding it to the size of the piece of paper you want to make, and press it firmly to squeeze out excess water. Let the paper dry for one or two days and voilà.

Remember, proper waste management not only helps save the environment, it also helps save energy, reduce pollution and protect animals around the world. A small effort from your kids today can guarantee a healthier, greener tomorrow.

Perhaps the most valuable investment you can make for your child’s safety is the proper car seat. 5 percent of the time, at least according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s 2005 study. Misusing the safety restraints was the big area where people messed up, according to the study. The child’s parents don’t want to make the harness strap or the safety belt attachments too tight, so they typically swing the other way and make them far too loose to do any good. Sadly, it is these mistakes that are the most common that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration calls ‘critical,’ as they hold some of the greatest amounts of potential danger to the baby.

{So how do you know make sense of keeping your newborn safe?}

Strive to get the perfect seat for your child’s particular age and weight and then make sure you put the seat in the correct position once you do. Many infant car seats allow you to place your child in a rear-facing position, provided that he or she is under a year old and less than 20 pounds. Infant-only seats are designed for younger, smaller babies, so they are a good choice for your newborn; they offer a good fit and are conveniently small and portable. For your child’s protection, always place the infant only car seat in the back seat and always make sure it is positioned facing the rear.

Many convertible seats are also available which accommodate your child’s growth spurts. As can be expected, the convertible style of car seat is larger, to accommodate growth, and not as portable. Again, weight and age are important when determining the proper position for the child’s seat; if the child is younger than one year and under the twenty pound requirement, the seat should be rear facing. Convertible seats can then be put in a forward-facing position once the child reaches the age or weight requirement, until they reach a maximum weight of 40 pounds. It doesn’t matter which seat you choose for the child; what does matter is that you use it correctly. Always read both the vehicle guides and the instructional manuals that come with all safety seats before you buckle your child in. Two buckles must be fastened correctly: the one in car seat and the buckle connecting the seat to the car. You can be one of the parents who actually get the harness strap position right if you place the harness in the right slot position and make sure it is a snug – not loose – fit around the baby’s chest. Convertible car seats require the straps going into slots above or equal to shoulder length; for infant seats, they should go below. Most harness clips that connect the harness straps – that should always be not twisted – are designed for armpit height, but check your owner manual to be sure.

Things to keep in mind about the seat belt are that many do not fasten them correctly; to avoid becoming one of those parents, make sure the belt is slid through the correct path and recline the seat by an angle of 45 degrees. For added security, a rolled up towel under the base helps. Tighten the seat belt, as needed, to ensure the restraint is secured to your vehicle. The vehicle ownership manual and the car seat manufacturer guide will help you install your car seat in a LATCH system car. If you purchase a seat that is not new, make sure you check it’s age and condition. As we have seen, manufacturer’s instructions are vital, so you should never buy a seat that doesn’t come with them; also do not purchase a seat that is more than five years old. Any seat you purchase should of course include all its parts; ask the previous owner whether or not it has been in an accident and avoid purchase if it has.

Don’t be hasty when it comes to getting the right diagnosis for you or your loved ones with bipolar disorder, especially children who are very hard hit by this disease. Almost every country in the Western world now has a growing incidence of this disease, especially among their young population of children.

If you want your loved one’s diagnosis to be complete and accurate, you are going to have to subject them to a thorough analysis by the physician. If it is bipolar disorder indeed, you are going to need all the information you can get about it so that the treatment can be complete. No questions asked.

Mentally ill children in community hospitals aren’t on the rise for no reason at all. I personally think that the diagnoses are just getting better, especially with so many of them accurately diagnosed as bipolar disorder patients, but I know doctors who think it is something else. Whatever that is, I hope it reveals itself fast enough.

About 15 percent of children in the United States were diagnosed with bipolar disorder back in the year 2000. By 2007, that figure had risen by almost another 5 percent. I wouldn’t panic at these figures just yet, but I would bark that something needs to be done about this in a hurry before all we breed in this nation as just crazy kids.

Talking of which, it’s very important for you NOT to look down on children with this disorder, whether they are yours or not. Instead, show them as much love as possible. It can help, a great deal.

A craft trend that is all the rage is making green crafts. Not the color – but the environmentally correct kind. They are inexpensive, fun, and teach kids about being creative when reusing and recycling. Going green with crafts is great because kids learn to be eco friendly and help the environment. Green crafts are inexpensive to make since you probably have all the materials already. Eco friendly arts and crafts also give kids a chance to let their creative spirit out – instead of using prepackaged, pre-conceived craft kits.

There are many items to use that you have around the house: cardboard boxes, plastic food containers, toilet and paper towel rolls; empty glass jars; old greeting and Christmas cards, plastic and paper bags; paper or Styrofoam plates; egg cartons; old Tupperware; wooden spoons, material scraps or worn out clothes, buttons, ribbons, used wrapping paper, etc.

Crafts can always be supplemented with some free gifts from mother nature, like leaves; sticks; sand; rocks/stones; flowers; pine cones, etc.

Keep a large box in the basement or garage and put items in that can be used for crafts. On a rainy day, let your kids and their friends make up their own crafts using the recycled materials. They may need a few extra items like glue, paint, scissors, staples, etc. You will probably be amazed at their creativity.

Some ideas of things to make include: masks, costumes, ornaments, treasure boxes, puppets, scrapbooks, name tags (gift tags); jewellery items; book covers, etc. For instance, plastic containers with lids can be decorated with old wrapping paper, cards, buttons, shells, etc., to make a keepsake box. Kids can make Christmas gift boxes out of old aluminum food containers, some glitter, cutouts from Christmas cards, colourful beads, etc.

It is important to teach kids about going green. Making a fun craft or game out of old items makes them see things in a new light. In a world of commercialism, kids often appreciate simpler activities where they need to use their imagination.

Studies have shown that more than 1 in 5 children suffer from allergies and you child might just be one as well. It’s important to understand child allergies and to be aware of the triggering factors within your child.

Allergies are designed to protect us but sometimes our immune systems might take it a little too far and over-react to certain air-borne pollutants and food. When it occurs in young children, especially babies, they can be quite miserable indeed. The symptoms can be anywhere from a simple runny nose, to itchy eyes, stomach aches, rashes and eczema.

With child allergies becoming more and more common these days, we need to learn how to deal with it as part of live. Recent statistics are showing that the number of child allergies are on the rise and “Anaphylaxis”, a severe allergic reaction that occurs where the blood pressure drops and breathing becomes quite difficult is increasing as well.

While small children can be allergic to many things, food is by far the most common factor. Foods such as eggs, nuts, soy, wheat and dairy are normally responsible for allergic reaction, especially when ingested for the first time by the child.

The most common signs that your child is allergic to a certain type of food might be the break of our a rash, hives or eczema. Stomach upsets and vomiting is not uncommon either. These symptoms are considered mild and for other more serious reactions like breathing difficulties, call an ambulance right away – do not risk your child’s life by thinking that the reaction might subside soon.

Usually it is quite difficult to tell if your child’s reaction to a certain food will change as they grow older, but as seen in most cases, if the allergic reaction is mild it will generally remain that way. Overall, most children do outgrow these food allergies by the time they start attending school. However, there are certain allergies like nuts, that people normally never outgrow and become life-long sufferers.

Other allergens such as grass, pet hair, mold and dust mites might cause allergies in children as well. The most common symptoms are runny noses, sneezing and itchy red eyes. Child allergies can also spawn from bee stings or insect bites which can result in a mild rash to the more severe breathing difficulties. Do consult your doctor with regards to what to do should these events occur.

In conclusion, although it is not possible to actually prevent allergies in your children, you can help them by educating them on what the allergic triggers are, so that they know how to avoid allergens when possible.

Autistic youngsters and adults frequently seek pressure in a selection of ways to calm themselves and handle sensory overload. Often , cuddles and squeezes from people may cause more distress because autistic children or adults are usually unable to speak their desires by indicating a specific amount or length of pressure. This is both exasperating and ineffectual for the autistic person and whoever is cuddling or squeezing them.

The cuddle machine was made to help relive this disappointment, putting autistic people in charge of their situation. Both kids and adults that suffer from autism occasionally want pressure to help calm hysteria. Due to this, one girl with autism developed the cuddle machine, sometimes called a cuddle box or a squeeze machine.

The cuddle machine has 2 padded sideboards connected near the base of the boards to form a V-shape. A lever helps push the sideboards together to form pressure ; the lever also permits the autistic kid or adult the power to control the amount and length of pressure. Studies are still being conducted to discover why those with autism reply to pressure and how it can produce a relaxing effect. The cuddle machine may affect the increased sensory perceptions of those with autism who frequently feels disruptive or troubling behaviour. By applying pressure, maybe the autistic kid or adult moves their focus to a single feeling-the pressure-which in turn produces a relaxing effect. For many autistic youngsters and adults, foreboding can be utterly incapacitating. Not having the ability to function with the nervousness is annoying, and so acceptable social behaviour is even harder. Occasionally , the sole release from such hysteria is thru pressure. To this day, the cuddle machine is utilized by many programs and analysts studying autism as well as care programs.

Remember that cuddling or squeezing an autistic kid may not help her or him. You will, in reality, increase their senses and cause more uneasiness.

Though you may not be in a position to purchase a cuddle machine, you could be ready to make a similar object.

Try wrapping the autistic kid or adult in a blanket, where they can control how much pressure to apply.

Contact your youngster’s college to work out if there was any interest in buying a community hug-machine. This would possibly not be a cure to all of your kid’s issues, but it works very well to help many autistic people deal with the globe.

The world is a far more scary and complicated place than it was when you were a child. As a result, it’s imperative that you set adequate yet fair boundaries with your child. It’s a very important role in your parenting responsibilities. Children must make difficult decisions each day, and if they don’t have clear, firm boundaries set, they may not always make the wisest choice.Limits teach children proper restraint in social and individual activities and provide children with necessary structure and security to assist in healthy development. Setting limits also provide children with guidance before they have an opportunity to get into trouble, thus making them more successful with everyday life.A child’s age and developmental level needs to be considered when setting limits. All children have a need for independence and individualization; however, they also need structure, security and parental involvement. It goes without saying that the needs of a 2-year old vary greatly than those of a teenager.A toddler has a strong desire to explore and investigate, but parameters need to be set to ensure their safety while doing so. Teenagers need to be able to be an individual and be independent, but with strong parental guidance and influence, are more likely to make smart choices in difficult situations.Limits should be discussed and set prior to the situation. Though situations arise that weren’t planned on, daily situations should have set limits and expectations. A teenager who breaks curfew may have the privilege of going out with friends revoked until they learn respect for the rules. A child who misbehaves while playing with a friend may need to be separated from the fun until they can learn to properly behave.Children respond in a positive manner in an environment in which they know what to expect and what is excepted of them. A child will be more respectful towards rules and more willing to abide by them if the rules are clear and consistent. Additionally, it’s crucial that once a limit is set that they caregiver stick to it.A child is less likely to try and manipulate a caregiver into changing the limits when their experience has been that there’s no bending on the limits. And remember, you are the one who sets the limits and lays down the law. There’s no need to argue with your child. Be firm and consistent and they are less likely to challenge the rules and will accept the consequences.–
